This
CD represents the first in a seires on Cuban artists from the Isla
Grande.
For the connoisseur, Jesus Chucho Valdes doesnt
need any presentation, but for those who ignore the richness of
this Cuban musical treasure, this album will give you the opportunity
to discover him as he is at the top of his art. Young Chucho played
in his fathers orchestra during the time when Bebo Valdes
was recognized as the mambo king. A bit later, as a
member of La Orquesta Cubana de Musica Moderna, Chcho became known
for his brilliant compositions and arrangements. In 1972, he founded
Irakere, the Grammy-winning group responsible for the most significant
contributions to Cuban jazz since the late 40s. Chucho Valdes
is a giant among giants, not only because of his powerful stage
presence due to physical stature, but more importantly because of
his absolute command of the keyboard. You will be amazed at his
expansive, fluid technique marked by double-handed arpeggios, Afro-Cuban
passages, stunning chords and blazing rhapsodies. This CD was recorded
live during the Montreal International Jazz Festival (in 93).
We hope this recording will make you relive moments of this unique
performance with this incomparable artist. |
